Investigational Study to “Course of events concerning adoptions from Bangladesh”

Subject

“Reconstruction of the adoptions of children from Bangladesh to the Netherlands and neighboring countries in the 70s / 80s.”

GOAL

The aim of the research is to gain insight into the state of affairs surrounding the adoptions from Bangladesh to the Netherlands, in which the abuses are mapped out and as a result they gain insight into how things have happened.

The research should lead to the reconstruction of the adoption history that may contribute to the personal development processes of the adopted adopters, including being able to place events around their own life history in the right perspective.

ESSENCE

The essence is that it was not necessary. A lot of parents could not take care of their child for a while but absolutely did not want to lose their child forever.

-Satisfaction in the way of a financial compensation for Rootsactivities and the DNA project.

Design

This investigation consists of a quantitative and a qualitatively investigation.

Quantitative

For the quantitative fieldresearch there has been applied a fair hearing in response of the information from the deskresearch on the concerned parties about what is known about the events mentioned which came out of the deskresearch, about how many children this concerns, but also the number of people involved and what role/positions.

Inclusion and exclusion criteria

Initially the interviewees are being selected on basis of their function and role at that time with the organizations involved.

For the Qualitatively fieldresearch 15 random selected Bengal are asked to fill in a questionnaire. Those Bengal have to declare that they lost a child in the period between 1974 en 1984, indicated in Bangladesh as the period after president SK. Mujibor Rahman and president Ershad.

Inclusion and exclusion criteria

Initially the interviewees are being included on the basis of their story, their age and the relation to the lost child. Only those who were living in the research area Tongi/Gazipur since the years 74.

On the other hand adoptees are being interviewed, who in the meantime found their birth family, to map the search process and experiences.
